After reading Katherine’s book I decided to re read Latoya’s book, her original book from 1991. Reading both books you get to see a complete picture of Katherine & Joseph & how they raised their family. The carefully constructed facade they put out to the world since 2009 is far far from the truth. Latoya’s book shows how situations can be seen differently depending on whether the person is a child or adult. For example the beatings and Joe’s strict rules. Katherine didn’t seen anything wrong, she believed in corporal punishment whereas we all know Michael and others were traumatized & it deeply affected them.
I haven’t read these books for at least 10 years, its amazing how the Jackson’s have completely installed the happy family facade since 2009. How they want everyone to think they are such a close family, that Katherine is a quiet timid woman when the reality is very different. after reading both Katherine’s & Latoya’s books, I seriously wonder how anyone can question the real motives of the recent civil case, it glaring obvious that what Katherine wants, Katherine gets & the family listen & obey her without question.
page 62 ,during a trip to Africa,Joesph tells the boys they have a new baby sister,born around the same time as Tito’s son Taj. Joseph was all proud of his new family, the boys were sickened & told Latoya when they came home. Katherine eventually found out a few months later,her way of dealing with it was to ignore it& to forbid anyone to acknowledge the child. Joesph moved the child & her mother into a house near Havenyhurst & was often see out & about holding hands with his mistress.
page 97 Latoya describes how the 4 wives, Hazel, Carol, Dee Dee & Enid did not like her. there were always calling family meetings complaining about her. Around this time Michael was writing songs for THRILLER. One day he called Latoya aside to hear a song he was working on called WANNA BE STARTING SOMETHING.
page 98 Latoya writes the song is not about Michael.Its about the friction between her & her sisters in law. she quotes the lyrics someones always trying to start my baby crying,talking,squealing lying,you just wanna be starting somethin. basically the 4 wives did not like how close Latoya was with her brothers. Michael wrote this song for Latoya.
page 100 Latoya talks about Jackie’s affair with Paula Abdul which started around 1980 when she was a Lakers cheerleader. She would go to Havenhuryst to meet Jackie. The affair lasted until around 1988 when Paula’s singing career took off. Paula’s affair with Jackie was no secret, everyone from those living in Haveynhurst, to Jackie’s wife Enid & his children knew Paula.
what a surprise Jermaine wasn’t supportive of Thriller. page 129 During a family meeting Jermaine remarked sourly he is wasting all this time on Thriller and its not going to do anything. Jermaine says I think this album sounds like a bunch of junk. Page 130 Jermaine’s negative comments were not confined to the family, he also made his feelings know in the press. At the same time Jermaine was discrediting Michael publicly over Thriller, he was trying to get the brothers to reunite and tour again.
I think I might have stumbled across the origins of Jackson’s not liking Branca & all the anti Estate stuff. Katherine & Joseph have inherent issues with outsiders & over the years have displayed a hatred of whites & Jews. This was very much in evidence round the planning stages of Victory tour, when Katherine & Joseph only wanted to work with black promoters. During this time Michael had brought in John Branca as part of his team which Joseph did not like Branca was the one looking after Michael’s interests during VICTORY, advising Michael AGAINST all the dodgy decisions. it is not surprising therefore, that Katherine & Joseph harbor a long standing negative view of Branca & have created all this anti Estate conspiracy stuff, which has filtered into the fan community. It is Katherine & Josephs deep distrust & racist views of white outsiders interfering in family business which caused all the fake will controversy & started all the anti Estate negativity.
Overall this book tells the story of child who grows up in a very strict and controlling family who through fear and family obligation goes into the family business. The story is of a child growing into an adult, and breaking away from something which they did not agree with. Remember though, this book was written BEFORE the 1993 allegations. This book details Latoya’s very close connection and love for her brother Michael, which makes what she did in the years after even more disgraceful.
Unfortunately Latoya in trying to escape and become her true self made the ultimate mistake. In her desperation to seek a world far removed from the controlling and manipulation of the Jackson family, she ended up in the exact same with Jack Gordon….
